This is Phil's Grandmother, Harriet Fox, and two of her elder children,
perhaps Seldon and Dallas. Seldon was born in 1905, so this
picture will soon be 100 years old. |

|
This is Cindy's Grandfather,
William Poland.
It's not clear what the occasion is. |
 |
|
This is the most complete picture I've seen of the Fox siblings.
L-to-R: Glayden, Bill, Clyde, Dewey, and Seldon standing; Edna, Trula,
Bonnie, Beulah, Eula, and Virginia (V.O. to family members). Ruby
and Dallas aren't here. Bonnie, the youngest, died in 1972, so I'm
guessing this was from the mid- or late 60's. Yes, it's the same
Seldon shown in the picture above. |

These folks are Phil's dad,
Phil, and Phil's cousin (Sylvia). We're in front of the apartment
we lived in on Lambert in Detroit. The paint on the sidewalk came
from a can I thought sure was empty. |

Phil's dad, Phil, and Mike, a year or two later, probably at Easter.
The building at the right is ours and you can see our windows in the
picture. |

Cindy tries her hand at the plow. The horse and garden belong to
Phil's Uncle Roland. This is a mid-70's picture. |

This is where we first lived
on Long Island, in the semi-quaint town of Sound Beach. The house
belonged to a NYC carpenter who came there during the summer and rented
it to students during the school year. Judging by the flowering
trees, this would be spring of 1976. The car is Phil's 1972 Chevy
Vega.

|
In 1976, Phil had a summer job at Kitt Peak in Tucson. A bunch of
the grad students went hiking here and there. This is Chiricahua
National Monument, in extreme SE Arizona. |
|
 |
|
On the way back from Kitt
Peak to Stony Brook, we hiked down into the Grand Canyon. Here,
Cindy pauses on the bridge across the Colorado River at the foot of
Bright Angel Trail. The trail is 8 miles long and climbs 4400
feet. On this
aerial photo, you can see two bridges across the Colorado and Bright
Angel Creek entering from the North. Cindy is standing on the
western bridge. We crossed both, however, one on the way down the
Kaibab Trail and one on the way up Bright Angel. |
 |
|
After the Grand Canyon, we met up with Jim Lewis in Arches NP in eastern
Utah. |
|
 |
|
Continuing that trip, we went
to Yellowstone. |

Much later, Cindy indulges Greg's desire to see inside the tree.
This is at Phil's cousin's home near Toledo. |

This is Rob in Fairfield, when he was on a team called the Bears.
This was just before we left for Athens. All the teams in this
league were named after football teams. I was told that MLB wanted
$ from kids' leagues that named their teams after major league teams.
I was skeptical then and I'm skeptical now. [Added 1-7-07] |

Here's Greg as a Brown, his first baseball team. He's unhappy
because it was bitterly cold that day. Greg was the only kid on
the team that wanted to pose with a ball and glove instead of a bat.
The photographer kept him until last. Wouldn't you think they'd
give brown uniforms to the Browns?[Added 1-7-07] |
