2001 - The Year in Pictures

Ho, Ho, Ho. Just click on a picture to see a larger version. We make no claim of historical significance, photographic excellence, aesthetic quality, or redeeming social value. I'll probably tinker with this site right up until the Winter Quarter starts, so you might check back. If you think this is worthwhile, please email me and tell me so.  The commentary is by me and does not necessarily indicate the opinion of any of the pictured parties.

Here's the clutter of Christmas past, i.e. 2000.

 Bill tests his new clamps.

Cindy, Cricket, and Bill at Sandbridge Beach in July.

Jim Granath, Joe Smoot, and Phil enjoy the good life on the Outer Banks.
Happy Birthday, Joe!

The bow of the USS Wisconsin, anchored in Norfolk harbor.

We join the crowd on board.

Greg, Cindy and Phil with the battleship.

The group sits for a portrait
before we leave Virginia.

We sold the '81 Toyota this year.  Actually, I traded it for $200 worth of maintenance on the Caravan.

The ravages of time.  Note the door handle I put on when the original handle got too fragile to trust.  You can see the trusty jumper cables in the back.  It was pushing 200,000 miles.

At Scout Camp, Phil won the Scoutmasters' "Golf" tournament.  The first step was to make a club.  It's a two-wood - the shaft is pine and the head isn't.

Troop 71 at summer camp. A noteworthy picture because both Rob and Greg are smiling.

In the beginning of August, we went to Tennessee for the Fox Family Reunion.  Here's us with Mike, Connie, and Roland. [added 12-10-01]

Here are the living Fox siblings,
my aunts and uncle. [added 12-10-01]

Mike and Cindy relax at the post-reunion get-together at Mike's. [added 12-10-01]

The annual croquet tournament at Mike's following the Fox Reunion.

If the Labatt Brewery people had actually sponsored this tourney, I'd have made sure the label was visible in the picture. [added 12-10-01]

Greg Fox shows his winning form.  This is the next to last wicket.  Phil is behind -- literally and figuratively -- but will finish second. [added 12-10-01]

Greg Fox won fair and square.  After several years of providing the trophies, it was good for him to win one. [added 12-10-01]

Rob and Phil, taking in the action.  It was a typical hot, humid Tennessee afternoon. [added 12-10-01]

Labor Day weekend saw Mike, Connie, Roland, Bob Shafer, and Pat Czeski here for a visit.  The chopper is Bob's.  We all got rides.  None of us threw up.  Here's Rob about to take off. [added 12-10-01]

Patrick acted as ground crew.  Here Greg is about to get out and Roland is about to get in.  Bob gave all of us rides, usually landing without shutting down the blades between rides.

1 N Shannon.  You can see Mike's car in the drive.  The red blob near the sidewalk is Cindy's coleus bed.

Athens' Near East Side.  The red star marks our backyard.

Waiting for the charcoal to be ready.  Phil, Mike, Patrick, and Bob anxiously wait.  No beer sponsorship here, either, unfortunately. [added 1-1-02]

Just before Mike and family depart for Tennessee.  [added 1-1-02]

Cindy  has gotten involved in the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a/k/a the Shire of Dernehelde.  Here she is with some of her medieval friends.  If the costumes throw you off, she's kneeling, second from right. [added 1-1-02]
This fall Rob became an Eagle Scout.  This is the crew at his project.  Somewhere there's a probation officer looking closely at this picture.
Some actual work.  They rehabbed this trail at the camp owned by the local Rotary.
Here we are posing, Simpsonesque, on the couch before leaving for Christmas in Michigan.  This is a rarity: we're all smiling.  [added 1-1-02]

Here's Rob, Phil, and Greg from behind.  At least a couple of us are seriously considering haircuts.  I've gotta find the right CD to play the boys the CSN&Y song "Almost Cut My Hair."   [added 1-1-02]

The blowgun was a popular gift.  We managed not to use it on one another, although Osama bin Russet took a beating.  [added 1-1-02]
A boy and his dog.  They say that pets and pet owners resemble one another.  Eerie, isn't it?   [added 1-1-02]

Cindy's side of the family.  [added 1-1-02]

Here are a few nostalgia pix.  Rob at about two.  This was taken not long before we left Connecticut.  It's kind of beat-up because I carried it in my wallet for years.

Rob and Greg make Christmas cookies at Phil's mother's house.  The white stuff is flour.

Phil and Mike seem to have gotten ukuleles for Christmas.

Phil as a Cub Scout.  The parakeet was named Snookie.  Honest.
